Faculty members of Cagayan State University (CSU) Piat Campus participated in a seminar on Republic Act 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act, aimed at promoting a safer and more respectful academic environment.
The seminar featured Atty. Epifania B. Macarubu, Public Attorney III, as the resource speaker. Atty. Macarubu provided an in-depth lecture on the key provisions of the Safe Spaces Act, which protects individuals from gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces, online platforms, workplaces, and educational institutions. Her discussion highlighted the law’s penalties, preventive measures, and the role of schools in fostering an environment free from discrimination and harassment.
Before the main lecture, Prof. Shella Dela Cruz, Campus Academic Coordinator, gave an orientation on the Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI)—the body tasked with receiving and investigating complaints of sexual harassment and other related violations within the university. Prof. Dela Cruz explained the committee’s composition, its functions, and the step-by-step process for filing and handling complaints, emphasizing the importance of confidentiality, fairness, and adherence to proper decorum.
The seminar underscored CSU Piat’s commitment to upholding gender sensitivity, respect, and accountability within the campus.
